Download iOS 5.1 For iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad And iPod touch [Direct Links]

Unlike the apparent panic displayed by Apple in the run-up to the original iOS 5 release, which saw an near-unprecedented number of betas seeded to members of the fruit company’sdeveloper program, there have been comparatively few reports of what is to be expected with its first major revision – iOS 5.1.
Then again, with the 5.0.1 jailbreak talk having quickly transcended into third-generation iPad fanaticism, it’s hardly a surprise. Although there have been a few beta of versions of iOS 5.1 floating about, it was still unclear as to when it would actually be released. That was, ofcourse, until the media event was announced, and today, in front of those present at the rather ceremonious congregation of press, shareholders and suits, Apple has released the final version of iOS 5.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
iOS 5.1
Although the iPhone 4 Antennagate scandal is often regarded as Apple’s biggest ‘fail’ in the smartphone and tablet market, the iPhone 4S battery issues this time around were enough to mark the otherwise smooth release of iOS 5.x. Said battery problems should now enter folklore.
With a new update to iOS comes the inevitability of yet another cat and mouse chase with the jailbreak scene. The first iOS 5 jailbreak took just over two months to be completed, allowing those running A4 devices to enjoy an early New Year’s present in December. Midway through January, though, the so-called jailbreak "Dream Team" – headed by the Chronic Dev-Team – produced the perfect tonic (specifically, Absinthe) to those waiting on tenterhooks with their A5 devices.
Let’s hope the developers still pose the nous and determination to crack Apple’s latest security barrier in iOS 5.1; they’ve certainly got our backing!
Official change-log:
- Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
- Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
- Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
- Redesigned Camera app for iPad
- Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
- Audio for TV programs and films on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
- Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for iPad
- Addresses bugs affecting battery life
- Fixes and issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls
Here are the official download links to iOS 5.1 directly from Apple:
This new iOS update is also offered as over-the-air (OTA) for those of you who already running iOS 5.x.x. Accessing the update feature is as easy as heading into Settings > General >Software Update and following the on-screen instructions, as shown in the screenshot below.

Apple's March 7th event roundup: the new iPad, Apple TV refresh and everything else

Weren't able to keep up with all the news from the unveiling of Apple's new iPad today? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Whether you're looking for more info about its Retina Display and LTE-connectivity, the refreshed Apple TV or related bits, we've listed links to our coverage of everything "new and noteworthy" after the break. Happy perusing! Oh, and be sure to check back to our the archive of our liveblog and pre- and post-event broadcasts for a few extra doses of "amazing."

The new iPad is official, with Retina display, LTE and A5X CPU. Available March 16th

iPad
So, what'd you have in the office pool? iPad 3, iPad 2S, iPad HD? Doesn't matter, really. All that matters is that it's here! This is the next generation of Apple's iOS slate and, as usual, she's a beaut -- and yes, she's still rockin' a physical button. As was rumored this thing is packing a Retina display, potentially making this the most pixel-packed slate on the market. The 9.7-inch screen plays host to 3.1 million pixels in a 2048 x 1536 arrangement -- that's 264ppi. It's not just a higher resolution though, the screen also boasts improved color saturation. Of course, what would a new iPad be without some updated guts. The new model has an A5X processor and quad-core graphics chip. Apple even claims its newest sliver of silicon can deliver four times the performance of a Tegra 3 -- we'd say dems fightin' words.

There's also a new iSight camera on board that's quite similar to the version inside the iPhone 4S. It's only five-megapixels, but it does have a backside illuminated sensor with a five element lens. It's also capable of capturing 1080p video, which should come as no surprise. We're also excited to see the keyboard sporting a brand new dictation key that lets you speak instead of type -- yes, just like on Android. The new software inside will also let you use the slate as a portable WiFi hotspot... so long as the carriers are game. It even has the ability to recognize at least some bezel gestures, as revealed during its iPhoto demo.

Perhaps most exciting though, is the new connectivity options -- you guessed, LTE! The new iPad is sporting 21Mbps HSPA+, but it's also rocking an LTE radio capable of pulling down 73Mbps on both Verizon and AT&T here in the US. Outside of the states Rogers, Bell and Telus will also be scoring 4G flavors of the iOS tablet. Amazingly enough, even with an LTE antenna on board, Apple is still claiming to get 10 hours of battery life. That's probably partially do to the slightly increased weight of 1.4lbs, though the 9.4mm thickness is nothing to sniff at.

The new iPad will be available March 16th, starting at $499 for the 16GB WiFi model and scaling up to $829 for the 64GB version with 4G. So, on the price front, nothing has changed. Pre-orders start today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, with much of the rest of the globe to follow on March 23rd. For more details hit up the PR after the break.

Apple is set to announce the iPad 3 on 7th March

Apple is set to announce the iPad 3 on March 7th. With the announcement will come loads of new specs on Apple’s latest tablet. As with every Apple device, the rumor mill is rolling ahead at full speed. Some of those rumors seem entirely possible, but with those come a lot of bunk to sort through.
The iPad 3 will be equipped with a Retina display.

The Retina display is the high-resolution screen found on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S as well as the current generation iPod touch. The screen is so sharp that it’s difficult for the human eye to distinguish individual pixels. If rumors are accurate, the iPad 3 should have a resolution of 1536×2048, which is twice the resolution of the current model’s 768×1026 within the same amount of screen space.

The iPad 3 will allow for faster data connections to carrier networks at least in the US, as it is unclear whether or not it will be supported in other territories.

The iPad 3 have 8MP camera sensor as the iPhone 4S. This would make for an amazing camera on the tablet. That said, I don’t imagine many folks using a 10-inch tablet as a point-and-shoot, but I’m sure it has its place.

The iPad 3 will be very similar to the iPad 2 in form factor. If anything, the tablet will be just a hair thicker. Some reports say it’s about .81mm thicker (about 0.032 inches). In other words, most of us probably won’t even notice.

The iPad 3 Will Have an A5X Processor . The A5X would likely be a dual-core chip that is an upgrade from the A5, but not quite the boost many of us expected in the form of an A6 processor.

Apple’s event is set to take place March 7th at their usual venue, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. It couldn’t come any sooner. Not because we are anticipating Apple’s next tablet, but because we want analysts to shut up about the iPad mini. That’s reason enough to anticipate Wednesday’s press event.

iPad 3 Release Rumors With Mobile Phone

Apple iPad 3 rumors are getting crazy and the release date just might be March 29, 2012, as information is leaked about an A6 quad-core chip.
iPad 3 Release Date
There’s no doubt that the iPad 3 will have a new shell and casing and the release could also introduce Retina Display, which means sharper pictures and vivid colors.
Could it also have a mobile phone? Several rumors indicate a possible mobile phone built right inside the tablet itself. However, this one might not be happening because it would have an impact on iPhone sales.
The new Apple tablet won’t be as fast as we originally thought. Does it matter all that much? It depends on how you plan to use the device.
If your usage revolves around checking emails, Facebook or reading the news, it won’t be a deal-breaker. The iPad 2 uses a dual-core A5 chip, so the hardware will still get an upgrade.
Several legitimate sources are standing by reports that the iPad 3 will have 2048×1536 Retina Display. Meaning, we’ll see a jump in display quality similar to the one from the iPhone 3G to iPhone 4. Expect sharper pictures with more vivid colors.
The Mac blogs (9to5Mac, MacRumors and Repair Labs) are on fire with the idea that a photo circulating of an iPad 3 shell is indeed the next iteration of Apple’s tablet.
Everyone is sticking to a March release date. According to AllThingsD, a source familiar with the matter says the iPad will be announced the first week of March.
Previous rumors over the iPad 3′s release date include a note by Citi analyst Richard Gardner saying the tablet would come out in February, which was reported by Business Insider. Another prediction came from the Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News, which claimed the iPad 3 would be launched in March or the middle of the first quarter.
And most recently, Mashable noticed iPad 3 books were set to launch on Amazon’s European site March 29 – meaning, the iPad couldn’t come out later than that date.
The original iPad launched in April 2010 and the iPad 2 in March 2011. Things are about to get interesting.

The wait is over folks!

The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners waited patiently, then they waited some more, and finally after a little more waiting welcomed the Absinthe jailbreak software to the community. Produced by the famous Chronic Development Team, and supported by the conjoined efforts of Pod2g and the iPhone Dev Team, Absinthe offers users the ability to jailbreak iOS 5 and 5.0.1 into an untethered state.

The supported devices and firmware for Absinthe are:

iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
A considerable amount of effort has been put into ensuring Absinthe is of the highest possible quality, but be aware that unforeseen bugs may exist due to this being the first time the development teams have used the backup / restore process within iTunes to install software, in other words; the jailbreak process is something which is alien to all. If you are an iPhone 4S owner who is ultimately looking to achieve a software based unlock, it is also worth heeding the advice given by the iPhone Dev-Team and remaining on iOS 5.0 if possible.

We can’t emphasize more on the fact for iPhone 4S users who are willing to unlock their devices on iOS 5. It’s a safe bet that you do not update to iOS 5.0.1 in any case as the unlock tool in development will not be compatible with iOS 5.0.1 upon release, hence stay on iOS 5 if possible since the original release of iOS 5 which was pushed out in October is not being signed by Apple anymore, therefore you cannot downgrade your iPhone 4S to iOS 5.0.1 along with your sacrificed baseband.

As mentioned by the Chronic Dev Team on their official blog post regarding the jailbreak itself, the tool is as ever simple to use and is a one click heaven for those yearning for a quick jailbreak.

Download Absinthe for Mac.

Windows and Linux versions of the tool will be available in a short while. Stay tuned for a complete step by step guide on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.x untethered along with a video walkthrough.

Its better for our readers to wait for a complete step-by-step guide on how to jailbreak their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1, so they go through a smooth jailbreaking process without facing hurdles along the way.

Those of you who have A4 devices and below like iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touch 4G can follow our detailed guide posted here for untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w.
